Hi there!
We’re back to reveal more information about our project and to keep you in the loop with everything we’ve got going on at Tapioca Town. The upcoming blog posts will detail our development plans along with other fun and exciting updates. In this week’s post, we’re going to share our product vision, where we see the opportunity for Tapioca Town to grow, and how we came to be.
How did this come to be?
We came together mid-pandemic because we were seeking refuge in our work. Without understanding what was going on in the world, we wanted to create a safe space online. A few of us were burned out by working at centralized, Web2 companies. We were curious and open to what Web3 offered and we saw so many strides being made in the NFT space. That’s really how we came to be back in September of 2021. However, a lot happened in between that time, and we took a step back to reevaluate our goals, how much time we could dedicate to, at the time, this tiny yet all consuming project. We stuck to it and that’s when we incepted Tapioca Town.
What are we making?
In our first iteration of the game, Tapioca Town started off as a simple “chill-to-earn” passive game. This meant, after you minted a unique pearl NFT, you could passively watch it evolve in your web browser. This was an interesting model because it involved AI, but we soon learned about the limitations to players. We received feedback from mentors and advisors that the game should involve more interaction and incorporate more Defi features to allow players to earn and stay active within the game.
In our next iteration of the game, we set out to leverage Steam and create a beautiful VR world where players could explore different areas because of the team’s past experience building a stunning MMORPG. However, we realized that we needed a ton more funding and more hands on deck to build something like that. So, we tabled the concepts (which we will slowly release to the community so you can see what the vision is).
Now, we’ve taken inspiration from some of the games we’d play on our desktops in our parents homes while we were growing up while adding some economic advantages for today’s players. We will be rolling out mini-games, a townsquare, and a few ways to earn with lots of perks for our boba NFT holders.
Why Web3?
We want the core of our gameplay to be engaging, fun and most of all, beneficial to our gameplayers. Web3 takes us from interaction and centralized communities on various social platforms to decentralized, where ownership can be placed into... well... your hands as the player. Why not interact and engage in our game while directly earning and spending as if you are in a real virtual economy? We see tremendous value in creating a platform to enable and empower each player. And ultimately, we’re committed to bringing that vision to life.
Next week?
We’ll be covering one of our favorite topics next week... Why we decided to build on Boba Network and the benefits of building a full-on web based game on an L2. In parallel, we’re also starting a weekly AMA on Twitter every Tuesday. We’ll be polling our community members to figure out the best time and for now, it will be at 6pm PST.
Thank you to our community members for encouraging us to share more transparently what we’ve been pouring all of our energy into. We are ready to start this new phase of Tapioca Town.
